In every household, it will always be fun to cook and eat, and it is one way to enjoy and share a good food with your family members in one table. But problem will arise after eating, delegating who should wash the dishes.

Typical of a Filipino family, washing dishes can be a simplest task to give to the children of the family, either to the eldest or the youngest, and if this task was not fulfilled, the mother will always be there to reprimand them. Thus, will result to threats of not cooking food ever again or breaking all those plates and throwing the utensils in the garbage.

While some would say they will assign a person for the dishwashing schedule, someone would always break free from this, and consider himself lucky, and another quarrel will arise among family members. And the issue on washing the dishes would always go on a cycle.

Worry no more, a team of researchers from Florida State University in Tallahassee led by Adam W. Hanley started a study on the effects of washing the dishes. And you will be surprised by the positive results, where it started as to know whether this chore can be a form of contemplative practice to an individual.

The purpose of the study sought to investigate whether washing dishes could be used as an informal contemplative practice, promoting the state of mindfulness along with attendant emotional and attentional phenomena.

They invited 51 college students to undergo the study where they were tasked to wash the dishes then their mindfulness, affect and experiential recall were measured as the researchers hypothesized that, relative control condition, participants receiving mindful dishwashing instruction would evidence greater state mindfulness, attentional awareness and positive affect, as well as reduce negative affect and lead to overestimations of time spent dishwashing.

And their hypothesis proved to be positive, were this task provides mindfulness to the individual as he or she intends to give focus to what he or she is doing which results to positive affect and a greater of mindfulness.
